Corn Germ Oil Production Nowadays

In 1890, America first used corn germ to make oil. In 1911, refined corn germ oil went into market. As the report, consumption of corn oil in America ranks second to soybean oil. Meanwhile, German and Korean also eat corn germ oil. In Japan, consumption of corn salad oil keeps at 100,000 ton.

In foreign countries, corn germ oil is mainly used in food, which can be roughly divided into two kinds: one is used for edible oil, mainly including salad oil, butter, mixed oil and other products; another is for the purpose of oil ingredients, such as potato chips, French fries, bread, spaghetti sauce. Corn germ oil is mainly used to increase the food flavor and its good antioxidant effect.

Corn germ oil for industrial production is relatively small, a small part is used for synthetic resins, plastics, lubricant. Another small part of refined oil is used in pharmaceutical industry and for special populations. On the other hand, in the process of corn germ oil production, it will produce 8% ~ 10% byproduct in honeylocust form. It can be used in industry and as animal feed. In Denmark, corn germ oil is used in oil painting, ink, paint and other purposes.
